Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how AthleteXpert ("AthleteXpert," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use AthleteXpert.org and our related services (the "Services"). It also explains the choices and rights that may be available to you.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to information processed through the Services. It does not govern a merchant, social sign-in provider, affiliate network, or other third party whose website or service you choose to use. Their own privacy notices apply to their processing.
2. Personal Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the Services and may include:
- Account and identity information: username, email address, password or authentication credentials, sign-in provider identifiers, account status, verification status, and referral code information.
- Profile information you choose to provide: name, profile picture, biography, sports, favorite color, city, state, country, date of birth, and gender.
- Activity and preference information: saved products and articles, profile preferences, account activity, and feature-use counts.
- Recommendation and search inputs: searches and answers you submit to recommendation features, such as sport, experience level, fitness goal, training frequency or environment, budget, and product preferences.
- Communications: the email address, message content, and other information you include when you contact us.
- Device and usage information: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, timestamps, interactions, and affiliate-link click information such as the destination domain or path.
- Cookies and local data: authentication and security data, cookie choices, recent searches, feature preferences, and optional analytics identifiers when you consent.
We collect information directly from you, automatically from your browser or device, and from providers you use to sign in or interact with the Services, such as Auth0, Google, merchants, and affiliate partners.
3. How We Use Personal Information
- Provide, personalize, maintain, and improve the Services.
- Create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and manage saved items.
- Generate product and content recommendations from the inputs you provide.
- Remember settings and make search and other features easier to use.
- Measure traffic, performance, and feature quality when optional analytics are enabled.
- Respond to questions and send transactional or service-related notices.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
- Comply with law and establish, exercise, or defend legal rights.
Recommendation-quiz answers are used to generate your results. They are not added to your account profile merely because you complete a quiz, although a result may be held briefly in a server-side cache to improve performance.
4. Cookies, Analytics, and Local Storage
The Services use technologies that are necessary for authentication, security, consent records, and requested features. These technologies cannot always be disabled without affecting the feature they support.
Google Analytics and the Sovrn Commerce site script are optional and load only after you select Accept in our cookie banner. Google Analytics helps us understand site usage. Sovrn Commerce may convert eligible merchant links into affiliate links. Selecting Declineprevents those optional scripts from loading. You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the site footer.
Your browser may also let you delete or block cookies and local storage. Doing so may sign you out, clear saved preferences, or cause the consent banner to appear again.
5. How We Disclose Personal Information
We may disclose information to the following categories of recipients:
- Infrastructure and service providers that support hosting, security, authentication, storage, and site operations.
- Identity providers, such as Auth0 or Google, when you use their sign-in services.
- Analytics and affiliate providers, such as Google Analytics, Amazon, and Sovrn Commerce, when the relevant optional feature is enabled or you follow a third-party link.
- Professional advisors and authorities when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect people or rights, investigate misconduct, or defend a legal claim.
- Transaction participants in connection with a proposed or completed merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or transfer of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell personal information for money. Some state privacy laws define "sale," "sharing," or "targeted advertising" broadly enough that certain optional analytics or affiliate disclosures could be covered. Where an applicable law gives you an opt-out right, you may use Decline or the footer'sCookie settings control, or contact us as described below.
6. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Services
AthleteXpert participates in affiliate programs. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. We may also earn a commission from other merchants when you follow an eligible link and make a purchase, at no added cost to you.
A merchant or affiliate network may receive information about your click and may use its own cookies or similar technologies after you leave AthleteXpert. Product purchases occur on the merchant's service and are governed by that merchant's privacy notice and terms.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide an account or requested feature, maintain security, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention depends on the data and context:
- Account and profile information is generally kept while your account is active. You may delete your account from account settings.
- Locally stored preferences remain on your device until replaced or cleared by you or your browser.
- Recommendation inputs and results may be cached temporarily to provide the feature efficiently.
- Security records, backups, and records required for legal purposes may remain for a limited period after account deletion.
We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer reasonably needed, subject to technical, legal, and security constraints.
8. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and notifying us of suspected unauthorized access.
9. Your Privacy Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have rights to:
- Confirm whether we process your personal information and access it.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete personal information.
- Receive a portable copy of certain information you provided.
- Opt out of a sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling where those concepts apply.
- Withdraw consent to optional processing.
- Appeal a decision on a privacy request where applicable.
- Receive equal service and pricing without unlawful discrimination.
You can update many profile fields or delete your account through account settings. For another request, email contact@athletexpert.org with the subject Privacy Request and describe your request and state of residence. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity or authority. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization and verification directly from you. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
10. U.S. State Privacy Disclosures
The categories of personal information collected during the preceding 12 months, their sources, purposes, and recipient categories are described in Sections 2, 3, and 5. They include identifiers; account and profile information; internet or other electronic activity; preferences and inferences used for recommendations; and communications. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of users under 16.
Some profile or account information may be considered sensitive under a state law. We use such information only to provide requested account features, authenticate and secure the Services, comply with law, or for another purpose permitted without a separate right to limit. We do not use it to infer medical conditions or for eligibility decisions about employment, housing, credit, insurance, or health care.
11. Children's Privacy
The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 may not create an account or provide personal information through the Services. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact us promptly so we can investigate and delete it as required by law.
12. International Users
AthleteXpert operates from the United States. If you access the Services elsewhere, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
Where applicable, our legal bases include performing a contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Services, consent for optional technologies, and compliance with legal obligations. Applicable law may also give you rights to object to or restrict processing or to complain to a local supervisory authority.
13. Browser Privacy Signals
Because there is no uniform standard for browser "Do Not Track" signals, the Services do not respond to them. Use our cookie controls to manage optional analytics and affiliate technology. You may also contact us to exercise an applicable state privacy right.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy as our practices, technology, or legal obligations change. We will post the revised Policy, update the date above, and provide additional notice when required. Material changes apply prospectively unless law permits otherwise.
15. Contact Us
For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, email contact@athletexpert.org.
